Is located in the newly renovated coral bungalow by the seashore at Souillac (savanne) in southern coastal area in Mauritius. It is at this place that the Mauritian poet spent the last years of his life. After the death of Robert Edward Hart in 1954, the premises were purchased by the Government in 1963, to set up a museum to perpetuate the memory of the great poet.
The building was repaired and the museum was opened to the public on 6 November 1967. The museum was renovated completely and reopened on 17 August 2003 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Robert Edward Hart.
La Vanille Crocodile Park is located on the southern part of the island in the district of Savanne and the famous river, Riviere des Anguilles flows just by its side. The area is quite comparable to a tropical rain forest with the palms trees, freshwater brooks and a collection of local flowers and plants. La Vanille Crocodile Park in Mauritius is the creation of an Australian zoologist called Owen Griffiths and his Mauritian wife who felt the place would be ideal for breeding Nile crocodiles. Not only the crocodiles and variety of animals but you will get mesmerized to see haven of lush tropical plants. Due to the climate of this place this rain forest is the hub of the tropical flora and it contains with itself more than a thousand wild Nile crocodiles and various kinds of animals like : monkeys, stags, fruit bats and tortoises. La Vanille Crocodile Park also offers you too a huge collection of over 20, 000 different species of insects in the insectarium.
Rochester falls is found in the south of the island in the district of Savanne which is located near the southern coast of Mauritius. The Rochester Falls are about 5km inland from Souillac on the south coast. The road leading to the falls crosses a sugar estate but worth the drive The area is full of natural beauties and interesting formations.
The falls tumble ten metres from the Savanne River, and the rocks have been eroded into upright columns. Constant erosion has fashioned the basalt rock into upright columns and spectacular joints have been formed by the lava due to sudden cooling. This natural scenery and the sound of the water is very fascinating and give a feeling of intense relaxation. It the most spectacular falls of the island. At the bottom: a large lake for the delight of swimmers. The local boys love to climb the cliffs of the falls before diving into the pool, which is a great place to swim.
Grand Bassin is a sacred lake as defined by the Mauritian Hindus. It also a natural place of attraction. Mauritius excursion becomes complete without a trip to Grand Bassin. During Maha Shivaratri thousands of Hindus, dressed in white and carrying flower-adorned arches, embark on a pilgrimage to the Grand Bassin volcanic lake Nestling in an extinct volcanic crater, Grand Bassin lake is considered sacred lake in Mauritius that is believed to be filled with the waters of the holy Ganges of India. Every year during the pilgrimage of the festival Maha Shivaratri, that is "Siva's Great Night", Hindu community uses Grand Bassin as their point of worship and they travel kilometers by foot to reach Grand bassin. This Lake is of immense religious significance for the Hindus residing here.
