The Pamplemousses Garden also known as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, is situated in the district of Pamplemousses. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden was first the property of the foremost French governor of Mauritius 300 years back, Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Pierre Poivre, a French governor, is the originator of the garden and he was the one having a very great interest in botany and devoted his life to the garden. He collected many species of plants locally and from foreign countries and planted them in his garden. It consists of a thick collection of palm trees and Queen Victoria water lilies.
