The island  was first discovered by the Arabs  in the 975AD.  It was then discovered by the the Portuguese between 1507 and 1513.Dutch colonization started in 1638.   The island was abandoned in 1710 due to  cyclones, droughts, pest infestations, lack of food and illnesses.

The French came in 1715; they named the island as Île de France and established the first road and harbor infrastructure, as well as the sugar industry, under the leadership of Governor  Mahe de Labourdonnais.  Blacks from Africa and Madagascar came as slaves to work in the sugarcane fields.  In 1810, the British captured the island.  The Indian immigrants helped in the cultivation of sugarcane following  the abolition of slavery in 1835.
Mauritius was ruled by the british till it became independent on March 12, 1968.  It becomes  a republic on 12 March 1992.

Climate

Mauritius is a tropical island and it is very green here. We have only 2 seasons in Mauritius winter (May to October)  14°C to 26°C and  summer (November to April) it’s slightly higher -  26°C to 32°C. Usually wind is blowing quiet steady from easterly directions.
